Bujagali: Uganda Hotel construction deal flopsSeptember 9th, 2005
JINJA district LC5 chairman Fred Gume has described as unfortunate, the government’s
nullification of tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia’s Ugand hotel bid at Bujagali.
He said lands state minister Baguma Isoke was misinformed by area MP Dr. Frank Nabwiso (Kagoma) to believe that there were irregularities in the transaction.
“The minister’s remarks that we did not consult the Government on the transactions are lies because we have numerous correspondences to that effect,” Gume said.
Brandishing copies of the said correspondences at The New Vision on Monday morning, Gume said the transactions were legally done in consultation with all the stakeholders.
The land in question overlooks Kimaka army academy and stretches to Bujagali falls.
It was formerly a shooting range but through consultations it was turned into a tourist’s corridor with the consent of the ministries of lands and defence.
Sudhir’s project has been controversial since its inception, with divisions among district council, cultural leaders and civil servants.
Although the district chairman claims the government gave a go-ahead for the sale of Bujagali to Sudhir for investment purposes, according to the papers he displayed to The New Vision, Baguma only signed the document that applied for the change in land use.
No trackbacks.
