'Western Women- Is it safe for my expat wife?' Safety

I am looking at working in Kuwait, coming from America. I was wondering how safe it is for my wife to live a normal life, like going to the grocery store or mall, while I am at work? Can she go out by herself, during the day, or night? What is there for her to do while she is over there? Is there any places that she could work as a sign language interpretor for the deaf? I am hoping that a current contract worker who has a family there can answer these questions for me. Thank you.

Well I've not personally lived in Kuwait as a contract worker, but I know people who have both done this in Saudi Arabia and Dubai and they didn't have any problems. They certainly had to adjust their lifestyle and take certain precautions, but they could move about safely though not entirely like they would in the States.
