Guatemala - Safety SAFETY AND SECURITY Catours SA (201.216.154.57) -
IN Guatemala just like many countries you have to take precaucions. But sometimes being a victim is not always your cause or fault, Guatemala is a good example of this, unfortunatley assaults are more common than we think. In Guatemala we all know it can be risky in certain areas and at certain times, but what we cant prevent is assaults on Mini Buses or assaults when you are confronted with a Gun. In these cases your only option is to surrender your property. guatemala is a Beatiful country and for most people that come it is safe and wonderful experience. If you want to experience motorcycle travel I strongly suggest Catours a motorcycle company that has been doing Tours throught Central America for many years and will ensure that you get the best of every country you visit. It sounds like riding a motorcycle around Guatemala would be a blast. And you're saying you can learn to ride a motorcycle and then travel around the country on one?

Glen Heggstad rode his motorcycle from California through Central American and then South America... his web page has some great stories.. including when he was kidnapped by rebels in Colombia.

Yes, "one tough dude" is it.I've traveled and lived in Central and South America and fortunately never had some of his experiences. I've always found the people to be great and excited to meet an American. In Colombia most ask if you are Canadian as Americans aren't as common. But I've always been treated well. The U.S. Consulate in Barranquilla, Colombia had exactly two people in it, a Colombian Policeman Sitting Guard and the U.S. Consol. Further South us "Americans" blend in as there is more of a European influnce and many of the latins look "whiter" than us. So in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay you don't stick out like a sore thumb.
